HENLEAZE LIBRARY 2008 and 2010

A Powerpoint presentation given by Sylvia Kelly and Veronica Bowerman at Henleaze Library was entitled "NOTABLES FROM HENLEAZE"
 
5 gentleman and 5 ladies were included as follows:
 
  1. Stanley Badock - Sheriff of Bristol,  Pro-chancellor and Chairman of Council of Bristol University and Director of Capper, Pass & Son Ltd
  2. Caleb Bruce-Cole - Owner of Packer's Chocolates
  3. Hugh Conway - Best selling author
  4. Amelia Edwards --  Journalist, Novelist and Egyptologist 
  5. Tom Graveney - Cricketer and Broadcaster
  6. Deborah Kerr - Actress and Filmstar
  7. Joan Sanderson - Actress - Theatre and Television
  8. Kathleen Walpole - Headmistess of Redmaids' School
  9. John Ziman - Professor of Theoretical Physics, University of Bristol, Member of FRS, Visiting Professor in the Dept of Social & Economic Studies, Imperial College, London
The presentation was well attended by more than 50 members. On behalf of the members David Snelson thanked the speaker, Veronica Bowerman for a interesting and informative lecture.

Fortieth Birthday for Henleaze Library

Barry Pilton, Tania Hersham and Veronica Bowerman were amongst the guests invited to join in the celebrations.
 
Barry, a radio, television comedy scriptwriter and novelist, recalled many aspects of his career in an entertaining manner. He also included details of his scriptwriting work on several wellknown programmes such as Not the Nine O'Clock News
 
Tania is a fiction writer. Her first book,The White Road and Other Stories, was commended in the 2009 Orange Awards for New Writers. She read some interesting extracts from it.
 
Veronica read extracts from the Henleaze Book which highlighted how life had changed in the area during the past 40 years.
 
The evening also included some live music and 70s fashions as well as a birthday cake accompanied by wine.
 
Many thanks to the Friends of Henleaze Library and the Library Staff for a most enjoyable evening.
 
I am looking forward to the fiftieth birthday!
